Sungjin and Myunghoon used to be a duo called HamoHamo, and their backup dancers included Sunghoon and Yoomin! I think they appear in the video around 1:00, it was kind of hard to spot them because the video is a bit bad quality.
The styling is so cute in this! I love their clothes...nice and vibrant with a friendly vibe! Also LOL at Sungjin accidentally hitting Myunghoon at the beginning when they ball their hand into a fist and do the little dance.
SHORT HAIR HWANSUNG will never fail to be the most adorable ever. Also, this song fits his voice so much. And the only time he rocked it was in this predebut era and NRG's "I Can Do It" era ): I wish we saw more of him with short hair...I guess this is enough though! P.S...Am I crazy or does he kinda sound like SHINEE's Onew in this? o.O
NRG's 1997 MV for their debut song "I Can Do It"! Sunghoon's frosted tips, Myunghoon's "BARABARA!!!" rap, Sungjin in glasses (only briefly in the MV, and he can be seen wearing them in the album cover!), Yoomin's bowl cut, their striped alien pajamas (lowkey really cute), and all five members casually somersaulting shall never be forgotten. Also, this is the only era of NRG's besides "Breakfast at Tiffany's" where Hwansung had short hair! This is probably my second favorite hairstyle of his, the third being his "Making Love" hairstyle, and the first being his "Messenger" hairstyle. The blimps in the background kill me everytime LMAO.
Alright, wow. They all look surreal in this MV. ESPECIALLY Yoomin, Hwansung, and Sunghoon. This era is probably Yoomin's era. I mean, just look at him serving face...and his little uh...narration LOL (I bet that had a lot of fangirls screaming). It's pretty awesome that they gave Hwansung the high note instead of Sungjin or Myunghoon, the strongest vocalists. His voice suits it the most, to be honest. Maybe he's not the best technically, but his vocal color is nice! It's warm and soft. The end of the MV is cool...and REALLY 90s. I mean, the water rippling to reveal them doing some cool poses and their names? Yeah...
Everything about this music video screams Y2K futurism. The space pod thingy, whatever the heck those green screens were, the flying jet at the beginning and the end, and the flashing lights. This MV is also hella saturated. Goddamn. It's a bit of an eyesore at times lmao. Well, at least we have some really iconic hairstyles to see, like...Myunghoon's Sailor Moon band, Yoomin's antennae hair, Sunghoon's pineapple hair, and Hwansung's lion's mane hair...with a cool headband to boot! Meanwhile, Sungjin's hairstyle is hilariously normal xD.
Again, a lot of futurism in this one...asteroids, meteors, planets, whatever the heck picked them up at the end, etc. It's a very cool MV. In fact, it has two versions and it is my favorite MV of theirs. I'm betting a lot of budget went into this. It's giving Age of Peace, H.O.T's lost, forgotten movie (SPEAKING OF WHICH...can someone PLEASE find it and release it in full! Maybe with English subs too...) Anywho, the styling for the members is insane. They look just like warriors of some lost planet!
They're so cute in this MV! The winter aesthetics and them being in those crystal thingies are entertaining. Woohoo, top tier 90s editing! XD The choreography for this song is the bestest thing ever. My favorite part is when they put their hands together and start making them go up and down!
I have no idea what is happening in this video, but...I definitely know they were pushing the dark fantasy aesthetics with this one! LOL. This is another one that looks like A LOT of budget went into it...Sunghoon dyed his hair yellow and red, Yoomin's in his emo era (HE'S ROCKING IT THOUGH!), and Hwansung's hair has gotten longer than ever. In my opinion, he changed and matured the most physically out of the three remaining members. Shame Myunghoon and Sungjin weren't here...I would've loved to see how they would've been styled too.
Finally...an MV where I can tell what's going on! A coherent plot! YAHOO! Lol. Their other plot-based MVs "Messenger" and "Face" were a bit hard to follow. I think this is about a boyfriend missing his girlfriend or something, getting flashbacks of her and him. Plus NRG throwing around snow and doing the choreography. And goddamn! Yoomin looks like he came straight out of an anime. Definitely his best era visually. Sunghoon's serving with completely white hair (it's giving Jack Frost), and Hwansung's got his long, silky hair down.
This was made to comemmemorate Hwansung, who passed away from viral pneumonia at just 19 on June 15th, 2000. He went away too soon and so sudden...life is so unfair. :/ The song was named after Hwansung's baptismal name, Antonio. I am SO glad someone translated this song. The lyrics, written by Myunghoon, are very sad, and the narration at the beginning... ): I hope Hwansung is happy and in peace, wherever he is. When I first watched this MV...let's just say I shed a few tears. It's really sad that NRG will never physically be 5 again, only in spirit.
This song was made for Hwansung by Kangta, and gifted to NRG. I think there's even a demo out there of Kangta singing it himself. The MV is of course sad in terms of setting and vibes...I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but it has something to do with romance. The members' hairstyles haven't changed too much. Yoomin's hair grew out, and Sunghoon kept his white hair, but Myunghoon and Sungjin's hairstyles are pretty normal. There's not really a need for too much flashiness anyway. Anywho, I'm glad NRG and H.O.T have a good relationship, considering NRG was the one H.O.T first saw as their rivals, not Sechskies. :D
Another song and MV honoring Hwansung. This and Antonio are probably my favorite ballads from them ever. "Goodbye my Friend" was also written by Myunghoon...and is absolutely heartbreaking. The sadness hits like a truck. The clips of Hwansung in the hospital on life support and his funeral really hurt...also, I really hope someone translates what he said at the beginning. The sub didn't seem to do that. The saddest part of this song for me is probably Sunghoon's part at the end: "I now leave my last in your soul here, I send my heart that's far away. When the hurting wind blows, when the sad leaves fall, be by my side so that I won't forget you, my friend. Right now in front of you, I'm writing a letter to the sky. Until the day that we can be together comes, I'll always send you a letter from my heart. We'll always be by your side. Goodbye my friend..." I mean, the delivery and the words...they just hurt. It feels so raw.
I think the MV is just them performing at their concert or something. Yoomin's DBZ-esque hair is...interesting. He pulls it off, but I admit that it was very funny seeing his hairstyle for the first time. Also a small, second-long footage of Hwansung appears at some point in the MV, which was a nice surprise! And Sunghoon in glasses...YES. YES. YES!!! Also Sungjin finally styled his hair differently...this time it's dyed white! And Myunghoon's hair...yeah, I don't know who decided that was a good idea.
After 2 years of drought, NRG satisfies with a new, fresh MV where they're just grooving! It's quite a flashy MV. Sigh...this must be said: CURLY HAIR SUNGJIN >>>> EVERYTHING. This is definitely his best hairstyle throughout NRG's activities. He fits it like a glove! And we can't neglect to mention Sunghoon's buzz cut. At this time, people kept saying he looked similar to Yoo Seungjun lol. In my personal opinion, I couldn't imagine him having any other cut for this era. This was just the best option! Meanwhile, Yoomin seems to be reviving how his hair was in 1997, and Myunghoon, who composed and wrote this song, rocks messy hair! (Sorry, I forgot what it's actually called...)
In all honesty, I have NO IDEA what is going on here, but I do see a lot of Sungjin getting beat up. Oof...he's a pretty good actor. Seeing him all bloody though was a painful sight!
I think this is connected to the "Forgiveness" MV in some way. His girlfriend in this story is in an alleyway missing the good times with her and Sungjin, then some weirdo guy comes out and tries to beat her up, but Sungjin comes in to the rescue and they escape together. Well, at least that's what we think happens. It suddenly flashes back to the fight again and the real scenario is she makes him stop (pulls him down and all) and then he says something and leaves. Damn... :/ Also, as a side note, Yoomin wrote the lyrics to this song.
Think this MV is just made out of their 2003 concert. Shoutout to YOOMIN PAN!!! And fun fact: Myunghoon composed and wrote this song. :D Thinking about it, he's actually involved in a ton of songs in NRG's 5th album...this song, "Hit Song", "What Should I Do", "Friend" (which is coming next)...etc.
Another one of Myunghoon's great creations...and I think they filmed this MV in New York! This got accused by a few people of copying 2PAC's "Changes", but it hasn't gotten big. Listening to both songs, I can definitely sense the similarity (like the piano melody and the general flow of the rhythm), but I dunno. Both are quite distinct from each other imo. If it was indeed plagarism, then goddamn at this point I'm not even surprised anymore. 1st gen kpop was pretty much the era of plagarism. Like H.O.T's "Line Up!" copying RATM's "Killing in the Name" (AND NEARLY GETTING SUED IN THE PROCESS LMAO...). A pretty messy stain to Yoo Youngjin's reputation.
Nice, sparkly MV for the World Cup. Myunghoon stroking Sunghoon's bald head will NEVER not be funny. Speaking of them, they slayed in those sunglasses.
MORE SUNGJIN ACTING!!! Wow, there is so much rain in this MV...I'd die if I had to deal with all that pouring rain. As you can tell, I hate that type of weather! It's just utterly miserable to be outside in.
This MV is so fun lol. Boxer Sungjin and Coach Myunghoon are the BEST duo! I have no idea what role Yoomin is supposed to be...but he's also pretty cool in this. It's too bad Sunghoon wasn't present in this.
